About Us

Friendly, Family run boarding kennels.

Tutehill Kennels & Cattery - EntranceTutehill Boarding Kennels & Cattery was established in 1992 as a Licenced Family Run Business by Vince and Kath Fleming. Sharon and Joe and their 3 children Andrew, Natalie and Patrick arrived at Tutehill Farm along with Sharon's parents in 1992. Vince and Kath used to breed and show Smooth and Wire Fox Terriers.

Their daughter Sharon ran the kennels with them until 2002 when she bought it from her parents. Since then they have had another 3 children, Daniel, Emily and Joshua.

Over the years Tutehill Kennels and Cattery has grown in size and gone from strength to strength.

This has only been possible with hard work and "your" help. We are very grateful to the Customers who have entrusted their beloved pets into our care over the years and are still doing so, much appreciated.

Over the years lots of changes have been made and Sharon is always trying to be one step ahead.

She is extremely passionate about her life and looking after all the dogs and cats that come to stay. She will always go that extra mile to ensure they are very happy pets.

Joe and Sharon are a great team working together side by side.

Their son Patrick is now their Manager and is a great asset to them. He has the same love and devotion with the animals as Sharon does. Being here since he as 18 months old and watching Sharon on a daily basis, he has developed the same skills and understanding of how animals behave and what all of their needs are. He helps Sharon on a daily basis to help run the place. If you don't see Sharon around when you drop your Pets off, please dont worry. I guarantee she is on site doing some job or another or even doing one to one with one of the dogs. She is never usually too far away. If you would like to speak to her or see her just ask Patrick (Manager)or Kelly (Assistant Manager) and Im sure they will get her for you.

Emily one of their daughters works on the kennels too. She also has a good knowledge of the dogs and cats.

Daniel, one of their 4 sons helps Joe out with maintenance jobs and he does all the grass cutting of all the fields.

We pride ourselves on training our Staff and have a training program in place. We offer work placements to Newton Rigg students and school work experience weeks.

We are also looking to recruit 2 new Apprentices in 2019 for the level 2 Animal Care Courses.

Most of our Staff are have completed several training courses in January this year already and will continue to do training courses as part of their employment with us.

We currently have a Team of Nine staff all working full time hours. We also have another member of staff on standby to cover holiday periods and during College holidays.

We will be recruiting new part time Staff for the Summer Period. We currently have vacancies for  2 Apprentices which details are on our Latest News page, together with a link. We may possibly have a vacancy for a part time Receptionist, details will be added to our Job page in due course.

Our Staff start work on different shift patterns from 6.30am-7.00 am until 6.00 pm daily 7 days per week. Sharon and Joe live on site and work from 5 am each day and cover after the Staff have all left work, right up until late each day.

We are up to date with the new Government Legislation and have also put several new things in place.

We have a variety of accommodation for you to choose for your dogs. We have facilities in place to take dogs from as young as 14 weeks old on wards once they are fully vaccinated.

Our Little Rascals suite is purpose made.

This is a completely separate area designed to meet the needs of very young puppies.

We have a large selection of different size kennels with covered outside runs.We go by the size of the dog as to the size of the kennel to use. They have a hatch which we open in the morning so they can choose to go in and out throughout the day. They are only usually closed during cleaning and at the end of the day.

If we experience extreme weather conditions we may have to close them during the day.

We have a few kennels that don't have outside runs however we not only offer the recommended walks but we offer a minimum of 4 toilet breaks throughout the day too.

We have kennels that are very quiet and situated away from our larger buildings, which are great fro quiet, timid, nervous or elderly dogs.

Our kennels have privacy sections so the dogs can choose not to look at the dogs opposite or they can look through the doorways.

Our buildings are either partitioned off with full height block walls in between the kennels or 3/4 high panels. Most of our outside runs have full height block walls. This helps reduce cross contamination as well as keeping noise levels to a minimum. This is also a brilliant safety feature as the dogs from one kennel to another cannot see each other and can relax and chill in their runs.

We have a selection of building with only 2 or 3 kennels in that are extra quiet which again are great for quiet, nervous, timid or elderly dogs.

We have Deluxe and Super Deluxe rooms which are extremely big, all with outside runs. They are made to be like a home environment with 3 seater sofa,s that turn into double beds with duvets and pillows.

We have a separate section for Dinky dogs, this is situated in a very quiet place away from the bigger kennels. We have plastic dog beds and raised beds available for the dogs for their sleeping area. Please just in form Management at Reception if you have a particular preference.

All of our sockets are situated high up out of the reach of the dogs and cats for safety.

All of our kennels and Cattery pens ave heating and ventilation.

We accept all breeds and cater for dogs with behavioural problems. No dog is too much for us. We are happy to spend quality time to help understand each and every pets needs.

We walk the dogs in line with the new Government Legislation.

20 minute walks at least twice per day and or 20 minutes time out one of our 4  Exercise areas. (Play parks)

We also do extra walks as much as possible and for certain types of accommodation.

We also do a minimum of 4 Toilet breaks per day if the Kennel doesn't have an outside run.

We currently use approx. 6 acres of land, which we own, to walk and play with dogs.

We have sections that are fenced off that we can let the dogs off the lead too.

We must obviously get to know the dog first and have the Owners written permission.

In order for us to do this we employ a large amount of Staff and some Staff start work from 5 am until very late each day. (We have less Staff during the winter months than the Summer Months.)

If your dog has limitations with health and lengths of walks can you please let us know on arrival.

For our Feline friends we offer full height, indoor cat pens with sneeze barriers in place.

Our cat pens are all heated with in fared heat lamps directly over their beds. However we have extra shelves and bedding so they can remove themselves from the heat should they choose.

We use scratching posts and scratching trees and have a variety of different sizes available. We also offer an enclosed bed for each cat so they can hide if they choose to. We have a full, daily enrichment program in place for the cats too.

Come and meet us

We offer viewing on a daily basis from 10 am until 2 pm. You do not have to make an appointment, you can just turn up. If you need to arrange to come at a different time please just give us a call.

Sharon, Joe and Patrick would  be happy to show you round the kennels and answer any questions you may have.
